Branding a Commodity: Pista House's 'Hyderabadi Haleem'

Info courtesy: Mohammed Ayub Ali Khan

  • Branding a Commodity: Pista House's 'Hyderabadi Haleem' -- IBSCDC Case Studies, 2009
    Abstract:
Every Muslim welcomes the month of Ramzan, but a Hyderabadi Muslim has something more to rejoice for - the Hyderabadi Haleem, a delicacy, which is available only during that month. It is a tradition to break the daily fast (roza) at Iftar with a plateful of Haleem. The making of the dish, which originated in Saudi Arabia, is mastered to an art form in Hyderabad. However, today, the dish is recognised all over the world by the name - Pista House Haleem. By 2009, Pista House - established as a bakery in 1997 - went on to become an organisation that exports its Haleem to all the major countries across the world. It turned a generic commodity - Haleem - into a unique global brand acquiring a cult like status - 'Pista House Haleem'. However, Pista House Haleem is offered only in the month of Ramzan. Considering the cyclical demand for the product, the way PH scales up its operations and manages quality along with its 'concentrated advantage' is very intriguing and worth emulating. The case deals with the economics of the demand for a cyclical product, management of scaled up operations, branding a commodity and taking such branded commodity global. This case can be used to understand and analyse: (1) the nature of demand for 'Hyderabadi Haleem'; (2) the maintenance of quality in a scaled up operation; (3) the building of a brand around a commodity; and (4) the best approach for the Pista House brand to go global.

With two Governments operating from the city maintaining law and order will be a challenging task

Having two separate police Commissionerates is not the only distinction the over four-centuries-old Hyderabad has. From June 2, it is going to be the common capital for 10 years for the two States of Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh.
With two Chief Ministers, along with their respective Council of Ministers, and two Governments operating within a few kilometres of radius, protection of VVIPs surely would be a challenge. In this VVIP-centric policing, it is a moot point to wonder what’s in store for the common man in terms of safety, security and smoother journey on road points of view.continue reading The Hindu

“Bose wanted to introduce an Indian form of greeting for his army, and for independent India. Various suggestions came. Hasan suggested ‘Hello’. Netaji snubbed him. Then he suggested ‘Jai Hind’. Netaji liked it and it became the official form of greeting in INA and the revolutionary Indians. Later it was adopted as the official slogan of the country,” he says. First ever Google doodles tribute to a Hyderabadi: Nightingale of India, Sarojini Devi Naidu's 135th birth anniversary

Memories of the great leader, Sarojini Naidu
    proud to be INDIAN

Mohammed Ayub Ali Khan @ Facebook:.

"I feel excited that Google is celebrating our own Hyderabadi, Nightingale of India, Sarojini Devi Naidu's 135th birth anniversary. I am still on the lookout for her poem 'The Pathan' which she wrote at the death of Bahadur Yar Jung. Maybe one day I will find it."
    sarojini_naidu_google_doodle_ndtv.jpg
NDTV: "The Nightingale of India Sarojini Naidu is the subject of Tuesday's doodle on the Google India homepage.
Sarojini Naidu was born as Sarojini Chattopadhyaya in Hyderabad in 1879, the eldest of eight siblings, and was considered a child prodigy. Her parents were luminaries in their own fields, with her father a respected doctor who founded the Hyderabad College (later named Nizam's College), and her mother an acclaimed Bengali poet. Sarojini Naidu passed her Matriculation examination from the University of Madras, and went on to complete her education in England, first at King's College London and later at Girton College, Cambridge.
Apart from her contributions to the Indian independence and suffragette movement, Naidu was also famous for her literary career. She began writing at the age of 13, and her first collection of poems, The Golden Threshold, was published in 1905.
The Google doodle marking Sarojini Naidu's birth anniversary is a simple image (seen above) featuring a portrait of Naidu in place of the second 'o' of the Google logo, and a symbolic blue umbrella in place of the 'l'. The image features mouse-over text, which says 'Sarojini Naidu's 135 birthday'." source: NDTV
